Pay roll for a party of militia commanded by Lieut Caleb Craft Dorchester Heights, from July 4th to the 28 inclusive 1778.

Handwritten record. Verso has note by John Adams Asst D.P.M.G. dated Boston October 3, 1778 verifying the roll "to be right cast"; note dated "Head Quarters Boston 12 Oct 1778" to Ebenezer Hancock, deputy pay master, to pay Craft signed by L. Loring and Major-General William Heath; and note signed by Craft that he had been paid.

Ten companies comprised the 12th Regiment, Massachusetts Volunteer Militia: five from Boston, one from North Bridgewater, one from Abington, one from Weymouth, one from Stoughton, and one from Gloucester. After organization was completed, the regiment was ordered to Fort Warren in Boston Harbor.
